The Library of the Hungarian Department changed its name to THE LIBRARY OF HUNGAROLOGY.
The Library is located on the first floor, building A of the Faculty of Letters, and it is in the service of the Departments of Hungarian Language and General Linguistics, Hungarian Literature, Hungarian Ethnography and Anthropology, since 1990.
The history of the evolution of this department of the library of letters was influenced by the administrative and judiciary transformations of the departments with instruction in the Hungarian language.
The first library inventory register contains the titles of the publications acquired between 1902-1912.
The majority of the publications of this library came from the donations made by different members of the faculty and by different figures, as well as through the acquisition of certain private libraries.
Thus, in 1941, the private collections of Elemér Császár and Gyula Baross were acquired, both of whom were renowned Hungarian literary critics, the library collections thus increasing by 8.308 volumes; at the end of 1941, it held a total number of 12.000 volumes. Today, this collection represents the library’s collection of old books.
Part of the book collection held by the Hungarian Civic Circle from Sibiu, disbanded in 1944, can today be found at the Romanian-Hungarian Department.
